Looking to make a career in Yachting

An enthusiastic graduate and experienced sailor with an RYA Day Skipper qualification and 6 years sail training experience as a watch leader and junior mate on vessels ranging from a 26' Westerly to an Ocean 75'. I have enjoyed most of my sail training in British waters, with the majority of my experience being in the Solent and on Cross Channel voyages. I have also experienced sailing in the North Sea from Antwerp to Aalborg as a Watch leader of an all girls crew in the Tall Ships Race 2004. I also have experience of yacht racing predominantly on a Sigma 38'.

I am looking to make a career out of yachting and feel i have a good basis of experience to benefit a company/vessel. I am preferably looking for a job doing deck work, stewardessing or hostessing. I have good people skills, I am polite, organised and motivated.

I have recently returned from a 10 month round the world back-packing trip visiting 14 countries. During my travels I had the opportunity to sail Caribbean waters around Jamaica, the Whitsunday Islands in Australia on an 80' maxi yacht. I also won an award for my contribution to sail training in the UK and was given the opportunity to sail a 72' Brigantine on the Great Lakes by the UK Association of Sea Training Organisations (ASTO).

My sailing and travelling experiences have allowed me to develop good time management and organisational skills which I feel would be appropriate for working on board sailing vessels. I am a team leader and supervisor with a good work ethic and experience of motivating people of all ages in sporting, working and corporate situations.

I have experience in the retail and hospitality industries which has given me good customer service and people skills. Through these jobs I have developed the skills to cater and cook for large numbers under pressure and in difficult situations particularly afloat.

Through these many and varied experiences and jobs I have had the opportunity to meet and deal with a wide variety of people from children to adults which has developed the good people skills necessary to deal with varied social situations, problems and complaints.

I am an outgoing person who is always eager to accept a challenge and make the most of it. I am excited to learn more about sailing and develop my skills as much as possible. I am fun loving and enthusiastic, I feel at home on, in or under the water and would love to make a career out of sailing.

I am available immediately and would welcome an opportunity to discuss the possibility of working through your organisation. I look forward to hearing from you.
